Sarapiquí is the largest canton in Heredia, owning more than 80% of the total province. It is known for its rich biodiversity and for being an adventure sports destination.
Sarapiquí is surrounded by the Central Volcanic Mountain Range Forest Reserve, the Barra Colorado National Wildlife Reserve and the Braulio Carrillo National Park.
This canton is sought after for its amazing and rich biodiversity and for being a destination for true adventurers. In addition, it has a rich history, since it was inhabited by the Botos Indians and was used by the American William Walker when he invaded Costa Rica in 1856 in the National Campaign.
This area of the country is the cradle of scientific research, environmental education and a bird show. Sarapiquí is visited in addition to tourists, by researchers, students, universities from abroad who come to observe the natural beauty that surrounds them.
It is an easily accessible place, since you can visit it through route 32, through route 126 that connects Vara Blanca – Cinchona and also from San Carlos de Alajuela. It is a land of national parks, nature reserves, rivers, waterfalls, rich cuisine and hard-working people.
In this canton you can find reserves with suspension bridges that cross the rain forest and admire animals such as: tapirs, agoutis, bats, monkeys, a variety of bird species, among others.
In Sarapiquí you can do activities such as: canopy, kayaking, rafting, rappelling, horseback riding, chocolate tour, pineapple tour, night tours, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, among others.
